Dr. Toledo received his M.D. degree with honors from the Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, in 1980. Afterwards, he underwent extensive additional training in surgery for seven years. He served his internships and residencies at the Baylor University Medical Center, the Duke University Medical Center, the Louisiana State University Medical Center and the many hospitals that make up the Texas Medical Center in Houston. Dr. Toledo in Houston spent part of his training at the prestigious University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Institute. The year he graduated, Dr. Toledo had been honoured with the top award in the United States for his research on nasal surgery at the national plastic surgery convention.

Dr. Toledo is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He is a distinct member of numerous scientific societies. Dr. Toledo is married and father of three children.
