| Professor S.N. Fyodorov, the well-known Professor of Ophthalmology and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences is currently heading the Eye Microsurgery Complex which is one of the leading ophthalmologic centres both in Russia and abroad. Dr Fyodorov earned world-wide fame with the invention in 1958 of the method of artificial lens implantation for the cataract patients. Nowadays millions of artificial lens are implanted in the world. In 1974 he and his team developed keratotomy, a new method of treatment of myopia and astigmatism. Afterwards Fyodorov developed excimer laser a laser operation that can be performed to correct myopia instead of surgical treatment. More than 1.5 million patients all over the world have been treated according to this method so far. In 1975 Fyodorov developed technology of glaucoma treatment. In addition, in 1982 he developed a method of vessels reconstruction that improves eye blood circulation and can be used for treatment of serious ocular diseases as macular degeneration and optic nerve atrophy. Over 15.000 operations have been performed with excellent results in 70 % cases. |

Professor Fyodorov's inventions are numerous. It's worth saying that he has 180 author's certificates on his methods including 67 granted patents in the USA, Japan, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and other countries of the world.
