Dr. Pilkinton Dale - Ophthalmology / Oftalmologia

Dr Pilkinton received his M. D. Degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. After graduating he spent the next years gaining experience in eye surgery, particularly refractive surgery. He was chosen for a residency at the prestigious L.S.U Eye Center in New Orleans under the direction of Herb Kaufman, M.D. and Marguerite McDonald, M.D. He first completed the required one year in internal medicine. Afterwards Dr Pilkinton underwent extensive additional training for four years in clear corneal cataract surgery, refractive surgery, corneal transplantation, strabismus, retina, and oculoplastic surgery. He was an instructor for Dr. McDonald's skills transfer radial keratotomy course.

Dr. Pilkinton completed his residency at L.S.U. in 1995 and was immediately invited to join the practice of Spencer Thornton, M.D., president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. At Thornton Eye Center, which is the oldest practice in Nashville dedicated exclusively to cataract and refractive surgery, Dr. Pilkinton gained precious surgical experience working with Dr. Thornton and another prominent refractive surgeon, Dr. Jim Hays of Atlanta Eye Surgery Group.

Dr. Pilkinton has lectured extensively both in his country and abroad, most recently addressing the German Ophthalmic Congress in Nuremberg, Germany regarding the surgical correction of astigmatism. A dedicated husband and father, he spends his free time with his wife Jane Anne (Filson) and daughter Sophie Adele.
