Dr. Donaldson received his M.D. degree from the Oklahoma University School of Medicine in 1963. He afterwards served his Internship at the Brook General Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, from 1963 to 1964. He then performed his Residency in General Surgery at the Oklahoma University Hospital, from 1967 to 1968.

Dr. Donaldson is on staff at the East Texas Medical Center Hospital, Tyler, Texas, the Mother Frances Hospital, Tyler, Texas and the University of Texas Health Center, Tyler, Texas. He has been Medical Director of the Centre for Neuro Skills. He has also served on the Board of Directors at the East Texas Medical Center and on the Board of Directors at the East Texas Hospital Foundation. He has also been Chief of Staff at the East Texas Medical Center. He has held the position of President of the Smith County Medical Society and President of the East Texas Hospital Foundation. He was Chairman of the Texas Medical Association Committee on Professional Liability Insurance. |

Dr. Donaldson is a member of numerous professional organizations, such as: American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association, North American Spine Society, Smith County Medical Society, Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons, Texas Medical Association. He has been chosen by his peers to be listed in the first edition of The Best Doctors in America: Central Region 1996-1997.
