Dr. Deland graduated from the Columbia University College of Physicians And Surgeons, New York, NY. He performed his Residency at the Harvard Orthopedic Program: Massachusetts General Hospital, Children's Hospital Medical Center and also at the Beth Israel Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA. He served his fellowships in Foot and Ankle Orthopedics at St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center with William Hamilton, M.D. and Francesca Thompson, M.D, in Sports Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital with Arthur Boland, M.D. and in Trauma, at Seattle, Washington and Bern, Switzerland He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is an expert in Foot and Ankle Orthopedics.

Dr. Deland's main areas of clinical interest are the following: Foot and Ankle Sport Injuries, Bunions, Tendon Problems. In 1991 he joined the Hospital for Special Surgery. He initiated there the Foot and Ankle Center. He currently serves as: Assistant Professor of Surgery (Orthopedics) at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Deland has been honoured with the Dow Corning Award for Research, Foot and Ankle Society in1990, the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation Research Grant in 1992, and the NIH Grant on Posterior Tibial Tendon Insufficiency in 1997. He was named by the magazine "Best Doctors in New York - June 2000".
