Dr. James D. Kang

Dr. Kang graduated from the University of Oklahoma, School of Medicine in 1986. He served his residency training at the University of Pittsburgh from 1986 to 1992. He performed his Spine Surgery Fellowship at the Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine from 1992 to 1993. His main areas of surgical interest are the Spinal Surgery & Treatment of Degenerative Spinal Disorders, Scoliosis, Spinal Stenosis, Herniated Discs (Lumbar & Cervical), as well as the Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

Dr. Kang serves as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Division of Spinal Surgery of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has been honoured with the Hip Society Award in 1991, with the Cervical Spine Research Society Award in 1994 and with the New Investigator Recognition Award (ORS) in 1996. He has several publications on spinal surgery issues. His recent interests include the: Biochemistry of Disc Degeneration, Gene Therapy Application to Disc Degeneration and the Biomechanics of Spine.

Dr. Kang is a member of numerous scientific and professional societies, such as: American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), North American Spine Society (NASS), and International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) and Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS).
